“Who ever loved that
loved not at first sight?" |

We met on November 23, 2002 in the
basement of Irish Times, a little Irish bar in |

In 1997, Nick and our good friend and
bridesmaid, Anne, both started out at the University of Maryland
in the Scholars Program (interestingly enough, the same program that caused
the fateful meeting between Hart and Melissa!). They were
instant friends and spent a lot of time doing stupid stuff together in the
early years of college, but sort of lost touch as college progressed and they
moved out of the dorms. In 1999, Mikaela studied abroad in |

It was pretty late in the evening. Mikaela was actually on her way home from another event, when she decided at the last minute to stop by Anne’s 22nd Birthday Party. She hadn’t seen Anne in a while, and had to drive past the bar anyway. Nick had also decided at the last minute to come to the party. He hadn’t seen Brian in quite a long time, and some of his other fraternity brothers were going to be there. As soon as Mikaela walked in, Anne pulled Nick over to introduce them, saying only, “Mikaela, this is Nick, he works at SAIC too.” Mikaela said to Nick “Oh really, cool.” And that was the end of that. |

We spent the rest of the night in our respective group of friends. The bar closed, and we were all ushered out onto the street. Mikaela had a great parking spot right in front, but the rest of the group was waiting for a cab. Nick kept insisting Mikaela take his coat, but she didn’t need a coat, because she wasn’t going more than 3 steps to get into her car. Before heading off, Mikaela just announced to the group, “If you know of anybody who might want to take me to my office holiday party, let me know…” Nick raised his hand. Mikaela ignored him, hopped into her warm car, and headed home. |

Fast forward to Monday morning. Mikaela gets to work and has the following email in her inbox… |

Hey! It's Nick, we met the other night at Anne's birthday. Remember me? I got your email from Brian because I wanted to make sure you knew I was serious when I said I would be your date to that party. Funny thing though, I don't know if you and I were talking about the same party. The date sounded right so I assumed it was the party for our Operation but that party is the 11th of December. I would still be more than willing to go with you if you would like a date. I forget the exact date you said though. I am away on business until the 5th, that isn’t a problem? I think you said the 6th. Well let me know if you were serious or not and we can then figure out the details. It sounds like it would be a good time. |

I actually sent this to your hotmail account first but figured I'd look you up on ISSAIC too. |

haha that’s too funny about it not being the same party! Mine is Dec. 7th and yes, I was serious about the date thing with only one problem...I have a friend who might be coming in from CT for that weekend, and if he comes he would have to serve as my date. He's supposed to let me know by Thanksgiving...is that ok? You would probably be more fun anyway 8-) |

So I am your second choice huh? J I see how it is. Just kidding. I will just have to hold my breath in anticipation until Thanksgiving. It would be cool to know by the time I leave for my trip (Sunday after Thanksgiving) because I am most likely going to be without email while I am gone. And I assure you I would be much more fun! So did you have a good time the other night? I have been so busy lately that I haven’t had much time to socialize. It was nice to get out and drink and dance. And it is always cool to meet new people. I was thinking too, unless I completely offend you during your party, I still need a date for my Xmas party. J |
