The Great Flood of 2006

Some of you may have heard rumors about the "Great Flood of 2006"--well, I don't know what was so "great" about it at all!

If you haven't heard the rumors...here is the story in short. Nick and I settled on our house on May 5th. We had a brand new washer and dryer installed a week later. I spent the next couple days cleaning like a happy home-maker, trying to get rid of all the construction dust. At the end of a cleaning frenzy, I decided to wash all of our brand new towels. I popped them in the washing machine, which oh, by the way, is on the 2nd floor, and set about to finish my business. A short while later, I thought I heard a trickling sound. I went to open the laundry room doors, and was greeted by a rush of water. Yay, brand new carpet soaked. Then I realized the trickling noise was still happening. I ran down to the first floor, and saw it RAINING in my entry hall (through the smoke detector) and powder room (through the vent). But then, I heard even louder trickling. I ran into the basement where there was a not-too-small area of standing water, and water pouring off the pipes.

Needless to say, I panicked. Then I called Nick. He panicked. Then we called Sue, she stayed calm. Nick and Sue arrived to help clean up the mess, and after some investigations, it was determined that we had a major plumbing problem--also known as "the plumber capped off the plumbing without connecting it to a drain."

So, once it was established that it was not my fault (visions of potions danced through my head) and that it would all be taken care of, we decided to take some pictures. And (drum roll please) heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere they are!

Our builder has already been here to start fixing the damage, and hopefully within a few weeks everything will be good as new. Well, we hope better than new, since the plumbing is now actually connected to things like drains and such!
